Aurangabad: A City of History and Culture

Aurangabad is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the fifth-largest city in Maharashtra and is known for its historical and cultural significance. The city is home to the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Aurangabad is also known for its Mughal architecture, including the Bibi-ka-Maqbara, which is a replica of the Taj Mahal. The city has beautiful gates as it’s also known as a city of gates there was 52 gates but unfortunatly only 19 gates a preserved by administration  which making the city unique and more beautiful.

History of Aurangabad

The city was originally founded in 1610 by Malik Ambar, a general of the Nizam Shahi dynasty. The city was originally named Khadki, but it was renamed Aurangabad in 1656 after Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, made it his capital. Aurangabad was an important center of Mughal power for over a century. The city was home to the Mughal court and was a major center of trade and commerce. After the decline of the Mughal Empire, Aurangabad came under the control of the Marathas and then the British.

Connectivity of the city

By Road - Being a tourist destination, Aurangabad is well connected to major cities. You can easily get private and state government buses to and from Aurangabad.

By Rail - The Aurangabad Railway station is located in the city with trains running to and from all the major cities. Two trains to Mumbai run twice a day on a regular basis.

By Air - The Aurangabad airport has an efficient connectivity with major cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Udaipur. It is located 11 kms away from the railway station. In case of international travellers, the most convenient way would be to fly to International Airport in Mumbai.

The Ajanta Caves:

ajanta caves                         There are many caves in india but some of the caves has its unique identity, Ajanta caves which is 100 km away from aurangaabad  .it is built between 200 BC to 600 AD and These caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are one of the most important Buddhist cave complexes in India. The caves date back to the 2nd century BCE and contain some of the finest examples of Buddhist art and architecture. These caves remained hidden for ages, before being rediscovered in 1819 by a British hunting officer. John Smith discovered the caves in 1819 during his hunting campaign. While moving around, he came to cave 10 and then he informed to the ruling Nizam  Governmet of Hyderabad to make it visible. Nizam of Hyderabad ordered to remove the tree and renovate the whole site, within a few years the caves became popular due to the beautiful paintings present inside. Nizam converted the place into a museum. The caves date back to the 6th and 7th centuries CE these caves include 12 Buddhist monasteries, 17 Hindu shrines and 5 Jain temples, which symbolize the peace between communities that existed in ancient India.Ellora caves is one of the most visited tourist destination because it has many attraction nearby like daulatabad fort, Aurangzeb tomb, grishneshwar temple, khultabad (vally of sufi and saints) Distance from Aurangabad: 29 km Timings: Sunrise to sunset (Closed on Tuesday) EntryFee:₹30 for Indians and tourists from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries ₹ 500 for other foreign tourists
